Norway September 2020: VW ID.3 lands in pole position, Polestar 2 on podium, electrified sales hit record 88.9% share, market up 39.4%
n September the Norwegian new car market looks to put a dreadful 2020 so far in its rear view market, with volumes surging 39.4% year-on-year to 15.552, leading to a year-to-date tally down -13.8% to 95.350. Thanks to a handful of very impactful new launches as we’ll see further down, electrified vehicles hit a mind-boggling 88.9% share vs. 77.3% a year ago, an all-time record for Norway smashing the previous high of 82.2% hit last March, and of course for any country in the world, thanks to sales soaring 60.2% year-on-year to 13.819. In the detail, BEV is up 57.1% to 9.560 and 61.5% share vs. 54.5% in September 2019, PHEV is up 174.7% to 3.129 and 20.1% share vs. 10.2% a year ago and HEV is actually down -19.5% to 1.130 and 7.3% share vs. 12.6%. Year-to-date, electrified passenger car sales tilt into positive thanks to this month’s astounding result, at +1.5% to 76.213 and 79.9% of the market vs. 67.9% over the same period in 2019. BEV is down -2.6% to 48.175 and 50.5% share vs. 44.7% in 2019, PHEV is up 60.5% to 19.357 and 20.3% share vs. 10.9% and HEV tumbles down -36% to 8.681 and 9.1% share vs. 12.3% in 2019 YTD.
