On paper, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 sends an astounding 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque to the rear tires, giving the aging supercar performance figures that remain legendary, despite the competition debuting new models. One such nemesis to the ‘Vette is the new Viper, from SRT (not Dodge). This V10-powered snake is rated at 640 horsepower, and 600 pound-feet of torque. But how much of that output translates to the road for both models? Edmunds.com investigates.
The Edmunds staff locked up both the Viper and ZR1 to the dynamometer, and revved both cars to their max. The ending results of which may surprise some, with the Corvette topping the SRT supercar in both horsepower and torque figures, while using 91 octane fuel. Where the Viper tallied 558 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque, t
he ZR1 managed another 85 pound-feet on top of that, and a marginally higher horsepower number, which Edmunds forgot to mention.
Even with the all-new Corvette C7 right around the corner, it’s still a feat to see just how well the ZR1 has aged compared to its competitors.
