Mercedes-AMG GmbH, commonly known as AMG, is a subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz car company specializing in high-performance luxury cars.
 
AMG models typically have more aggressive looks, higher performances, better handling and better stability, and more extensive use of carbon fiber than their regular Mercedes counterparts. AMG models are typically the most expensive and highest-performance of each Mercedes class, with the exception of non-AMG V12 models found in the most expensive nameplates of the lineup.

The AMG 6.0-litre V12 "biturbo" (twin-turbocharged) engine develops a maximum output of 463 kW (630 hp) and maximum torque of 1000 newton metres. The result: exceptional performance, impressive power delivery and effortlessly superior dynamics. As with the SLS AMG super sports car, the use of an all-aluminium bodyshell results in a drastic reduction in weight. The new SL 65 AMG is some 170 kilograms lighter than before.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 AMG is the newest player in the premium sport convertible segment and with a base price of over $100,000 and an all-new 429-horsepower twin-turbo V8, it ticks both of those boxes handily. The trouble is, BMW also has a twin-turbo V8-powered luxury sport convertible in the form of the 2012 BMW 650i. It has more seats and costs less, but the 4.4-liter V8 in the BMW only makes 400 horsepower and 450 pound feet of torque.
