I was at BMW E90 training today and found the answer to why the disc brake in the rear which is 13.2" is larger than the one in the front at 13.0". Because DSC is in it's 8th generation of evolution, BMW wanted to get better performance when the E90 is using the DSC system extensively during a short period of time. Because the DSC system would brake the rear wheels under full throttle, it takes a lot of energy to slow the wheel down so it is not spinning against the ground. If this was happening many times over the rear brake could overheat. Also the rear disc doesn't cool as fast as the front disc. So it's made bigger to handle the DSC load and heat friction for less rear disc brake fade. Hope that makes sense...I'm just summarizing what BMW of Canada told me.
